NEW Release (2004-07-26)

IEC 61850 Evaluation Kit CD-ROM for 100 EURO has been replaced by downloadable free demo software

The reasons for the withdrawal of the CD ROM Eval Kit are:

  • The IEEE TR 1550 (UCATM Specification Version 2) is an obsolete specification. The REAL standard is the series IEC 61850.
  • SISCO wants to distribute demo versions of their software on their own.

Note (2004-02-21):

13 of the14 parts of the standard series IEC 61850 have been published as International Standards. The UCA specification has been (more or less completely) included in IEC 61850. As a consequence all vendors migrate now to IEC 61850. The UCA International Users Group supports the standard IEC 61850 (the UCA specification will be replaced by THE REAL standard series IEC 61850). The software provided by the CD ROM is compliant to the CDV version of IEC 61850-8-1 (and to UCA). The update of the software to the final International Standard is expected by March 2004. The CD ROM can be used to evaluate the IEC 61850. All services of the clients and servers are operating. Clients and servers provided on the CD ROM may not properly operate with the final version of the software. The main reason is the migration from MMS ISO 9506 version 1 to version 2 that has been decided recently.

If you buy the CD ROM now, you may ask for updates as soon as they are available.

EPRI and NettedAutomation offer a CD ROM containing a IEC 61850 and MMS Evaluation Kit as well as UCA: the EPRI Version 1 and the IEEE Version 2 (Nov 99)1 for the fastest possible start to learn about UCA technology.

NettedAutomation's mission is to bring people, systems and devices together.

The content of the CD-ROM will make it easier for you to get started with the application of UCA/IEC 61850 and MMS2. It serves to understand this open approach and solutions, as well as it does assist people to exploit IEC 61850 and MMS compliant products in various application domains. The real benefit of IEC 61850 will be demonstrated.

A. IEC 61850 Evaluation Kit CD ROM

Servers

IEC 61850 and MMS servers to run under Windows NT/95/98 (TCP/IP winsock interface) or on LINUX (TCP/IP socket interface). These servers provides several (small and complex) IEC 61850 GOMSFE (resp. IEC 61850 based) device models and Logical Nodes, reporting, reading, writing, etc according to UCA/CASM (resp. IEC 61850/ACSI). This code can run immediately. The server is a fully functional and licensed copy of an executable code based on Tamarack's UCA/MMSd software package. The server data are simulated by an integrated simulation program. The behavior of the simulation program can be modified using an ini file. Additional servers with many other combinations of models, Logical Nodes, Data Objects can be provided on request. This allows to test client applications without connecting to the real IED; IEDs are emulated by a server running on, e.g., a standard PC under Windows or LINUX system in your office. (view picture)

Client 1

IEC 61850 and MMS client to run under Windows. This UCA client provides a DDE or OPC interface for Windows NT/95/98 applications to any UCA/IEC 61850 compliant server. This client initiates, receives, and displays UCA reports, reads, and writes of data objects and logs/journals. The UCA client is a fully functional demonstration copy of SISCO's AX-S4 MMS product (including the MMS Object Explorer). This demo version runs for one hour before it automatically stops at which time it can be re-started. AX-S4 MMS provides Microsoft DDE client/server and OPC server functions.(view picture)

Client 2

IEC 61850 and MMS ActiveX Control to run under Windows. This client provides a state-of-the-art, multithreaded COM automation interface to any UCA/IEC 61850 or MMS compliant Server or Device. Key features include automatic connection management, XML data representation, and both synchronous and asynchronous operation. For asynchronous (unsolicited) operation, simple ActiveX events trigger in your script or code. LiveDataTM ActiveX Control is fully functional and is licensed for 30 days.(view picture)

Analyzer (more details)

IEC 61850 and MMS Analyzer to run under Windows. This Analyzer provides a fully functional network analyzing software for all layers including GOMSFE/IEC 61850-7-4. The Analyzer is a fully functional copy of KEMA Connect's UniCA UCATM Analyzer (the number of messages that can be analyzed is restricted).(view picture)

Documentation and Specification

Software installation and user guides for all four software packages. User guide on how to build and run a UCATM network composed of servers, clients, and the analyzer. IEEE TR 1550 (UCATM Specification Version 2, PDF format) and the EPRI UCA Version 1 (HTML Format).

Tutorial

A comprehensive HTML based tutorial on UCATM/IEC 61850, MMS, and ICCP - provided by SCC (Schwarz Consulting Company).(view picture)
